THE Association of Philippine Journalists – Samahang Plaridel Foundation, Inc. will launch the first of a series of campus journalism seminars on Friday, Jan. 30 at the Eulogio Rodriguez Jr.High School at Mayon Ave., Quezon City.
Entitled “Usapang Plaridel: Campus Journalism Lecture Series”, the event will bring four veteran print and broadcast journalists to different public high schools all over Metro Manila from January to December as part of Samahang Plaridel’s efforts to raise the standard of journalism in the country.
Association of Philippine Journalists- Samahang Plaridel president Evelyn Quiroz said the campus journalism lecture is aimed at providing valuable insights and inspiring life lessons to aspiring student-journalists.
Leading the Samahang Plaridel lecturers are veteran journalists Nestor Cuartero of the Manila Bulletin/The Market Monitor, who will talk about feature/lifestyle writing; Frederick Nasiad of the Manila Times, who will discuss news writing; Lito Cinco of People’s Tonight, who will lecture on sportswriting; and Benjamin Alejandro, who will talk about radio broadcasting.
Jonathan Gesmundo of the The Market Monitor will also give a lecture on the life of Marcelo H. del Pilar, the “Father of Philippine Journalism “, and his writings at La Solidaridad under the pen name Plaridel.
Quiroz thanked E. Rodriguez Jr. High School Principal Ernesto Ferrer and ERJHS Alumni Association president Ramon Ferreros for providing assistance to the seminar-workshop.
Aside from the ERJHS, also in the calendar are seminar-workshops at the New Era High School in Tandang Sora, Quezon City on Feb. 20; and the Jose P. Laurel High School in Gagalangin, Tondo on March 13.
The Association of Philippine Journalists Samahang Plaridel was established in October 2003 with veteran journalists Max Soliven, Jullie Yap Daza, Adrian Cristobal, Neal Cruz, Carmen Guerrero-Nakpil, Rod Reyes, Crispulo Icban and Rolando Estabillo as founding officers to uphold the high standard of journalism in the country.
