P27.92-B project for resilient healthcare system gets BBM approval

National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Chairman of the Board, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., on Wednesday gave the green light to the Department of Health’s (DOH) flagship initiative aimed at rebuilding a resilient and responsive healthcare system.

The initiative, called the “Philippines: Health System Resilience Project, Phase 1,” is designed to strengthen health emergency prevention, preparedness, and response in the country’s most vulnerable areas.

President Marcos emphasized that the P27.921-billion project embodies the lessons learned from the pandemic. “This is excellent because it is tailored specifically to the Philippines, not a general approach—it’s specific even to the areas we are targeting,” Marcos told Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa, who presented the project during the NEDA Board Meeting at Malacañang Palace.

The program also focuses on establishing an enabling environment, efficient project management, and monitoring and evaluation systems, alongside a Contingency Emergency Response Component (CERC) to address urgent health needs.

The DOH has identified 17 provinces for the pilot implementation of this project, prioritizing areas with limited access to healthcare services.
