Eduardo Roy Jr.’s Pamilya Ordinaryo (Ordinary Family), a compelling portrait of two teenage street dwellers and their desperate search for their kidnapped baby, scooped five major awards at the conclusion of the 12th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival on Aug. 14.
During the awards ceremony held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’s Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo, Pamilya Ordinaryo won best film, best director for Roy, best actress for newcomer Hasmine Killip, best editing for Carlos Francisco Manatad, and the Netpac (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) award in the full-length feature category.
The film was lauded “for its strong sense of realism, the mix of narrative and the use of real CCTV footages combine to make it more gritty and dramatically powerful. As the top winner, Pamilya Ordinaryo won P350,000 cash award and the Cinemalaya Balanghai trophy.
