A male passenger bound for China was arrested at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on Thursday after security personnel discovered a loaded firearm magazine in his trolley bag.
According to a Facebook post by the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP AVSEGROUP), x-ray screening detected a .45 caliber magazine loaded with seven rounds of ammunition. The passenger failed to present a Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban exemption certificate.
Airport police conducted a manual inspection in the presence of the passenger, confirming the prohibited item. The suspect, along with the confiscated ammunition, was taken to NAIA Police Station 1 for documentation and the filing of appropriate charges.
“This arrest demonstrates our dedication to keeping airports free from unauthorized firearms,” PNP AVSEGROUP Director PBGen Christopher Abecia stated.
