Security has been tightened at airports and seaports across the country as the Philippine National Police ramps up efforts to arrest businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang, who is facing a court-issued arrest warrant in connection with the case of missing cockfight enthusiasts.
Acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said police units have been instructed to work closely with immigration authorities to ensure Ang cannot slip out of the country while tracker teams and intelligence operatives continue the nationwide manhunt.
Nartatez stressed that surrender remains Ang’s best option, saying police are fully committed to carrying out the arrest order issued by the Sta. Cruz, Laguna Regional Trial Court Branch 26.
The court earlier directed the arrest of 18 individuals—mostly police officers and civilians—over the high-profile case, with Ang now the only suspect still at large. The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, which is leading the operation, confirmed that all other accused are already under police custody.
Interior Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla said authorities are also weighing the offer of a ₱10-million reward for information that could lead to Ang’s capture, noting that his resources may allow him to hide in remote or hard-to-reach areas.
Remulla warned that Ang is considered dangerous and is believed to be under heavy armed protection, prompting police to proceed with caution. He urged the businessman to submit himself to the courts, saying no one can evade the reach of the Philippine government.
