Scammers now using AI to fake bank, GCash receipts

Scammers are now using artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT and Grok to create fake transaction receipts for bank and GCash transfers, tricking unsuspecting sellers and individuals online.

One Facebook user, Peb De Leon, shared how he was almost duped when a friend claimed to have transferred money to him through BPI. The friend even sent what looked like a legitimate transaction receipt.

However, upon checking his account, De Leon realized no money had been received. He later discovered the receipt had been generated using AI and was so realistic it could have easily passed as genuine.

This type of scam isn’t limited to BPI transactions. AI-generated fake receipts are now being made for other banks and payment platforms as well. With image-generating tools capable of producing believable receipts in just seconds, the risk of falling victim to digital fraud is increasing.

Experts and users alike are urging the public to stay cautious. If you’re selling a product or service, it’s important to verify that the money has actually been credited to your account before releasing any item. Watch out for buyers who pressure you to release items before the payment reflects, as this is often a red flag.

Until clearer regulations on AI-generated content are in place, digital vigilance remains the best protection against this emerging scam.
