Sec. Bautista assures Coast Guard of full support

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) assured the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) of its required resources and infrastructure as well as policy measures to further improve its maritime capability and capacity in performing its mandate.

“We aim to provide the PCG with the resources, infrastructure, and policy backing it needs to fulfill its mission. Let us continue to work hand in hand to advance maritime safety, security and marine protection,” Sec. Bautista said during the PCG’s 2025 New Year’s Call.

At the same time, transport chief called on the PCG to keep performing its duties in the West Philippine Sea so as not to squander their valiant efforts in asserting the country’s maritime interests.

“Your efforts in patrolling our maritime zones, responding to incursions, and upholding our territorial integrity have not gone unnoticed. The deployment of modern assets, coupled with enhanced operational strategies, has amplified our capacity to respond swiftly and decisively,” Sec. Bautista said.

Sec. Bautista likewise told the PCG to ensure that its personnel are committed to excellence in maritime safety and rescue missions.

“Moving forward, let us strive to enhance our operational readiness and training, ensuring that the PCG remains synonymous with reliability and professionalism,” he said.

He also urged the PCG to expand its workforce, which is currently over 30,000.

“I enjoin the PCG to build its organization around no more than 34,000 uniformed personnel,” Sec. Bautista said.
