Yul Servo graces observance of Marcelo H. del Pilar 174th birth year

Press freedom must be alive in every hearts of the Filipinos especially among mass media practitioners. 

This was the gist of the speech of actor Yul Servo, also known as John Narvin Nieto, Vice’Mayor of the City of Manila at the celebration of the 174th birth anniversary of Filipino freedom fighter Marcelo H. del Pilar held at the corner of Quirino Avenue, Roxas Boulevard and M H. del Pilar Street where the monument of the hero is erected.

“Sa panahon ng misinformation at fake news, mahalaga ang paalala ni Marcelo H. del Pilar na panatiliin ang integridad ng pamamahayag (In the emergence of disinformation, his memories are important in the truthfulness and integrity of the press),” said Yul in his speech. 

M.H. del Pilar, also known as Plaridel, is considered the Father of Philippine Journalism who fought Spanish authoritarianism through his newspaper, La Solidaridad. 

The Association of Philippine Journalists or the Samahang Plaridel which organized the event, is named after him. 

Among the other guests who graced the affair were Evelyn Quiroz, PresIdent of the Association of Philippine Journalists (Samahang Plaridel), Bryan Anthony Paraiso of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), balladeer Rafael Centenera, Atty. Hector Villacorta and other members and officers of the organization.
