Ber months are here.
What a way to sing them.
Each Filipino music artist, in any medium, finds a way to interpret a song or a musical piece that expresses a special occasion or a celebration, any day, any single moment of the season.
It is fulfilling for every musician to give meaning, color, movement, shape, rhythm etc. to a composition about certain aspects of marked calendar activities, personal or otherwise, and achieve them with artistry.
Or more to it, a singer or a musician performs experiences in any manner or genre relative to time or history, public or exclusive domain, with gusto.
It could be covers of foreign influences like Stevie Wonder’s “I Just Called to Say I Love You,” a hit the blind artist wrote, produced and performed.
Wonder’s signature song is an array of events encompassing all memorable time of the year from New Year to Christmas.
Or it could be a homegrown piece like “Christmas in our Hearts,” an original creation of our very own balladeer Jose Mari Chan who also recorded it.
Although there might be local artists who have done covers of his opus live, in personal appearances or multimedia coverages not excluding digital platforms, Joe Mari’s version is the most awaited.
As a matter fact, everyone is anticipating the advent of Christmastime through Chan’s holiday music, notably ushering in the special season of love in the Philippines.
As early as September is considered his most precious time to breathe life to his art and recreate his rendition to the same arrangement and the effect is still as a brand new item.
Joe Mari is the key to the opening of the longest Christmas celebration in the world among Filipinos wherever they are.
It is a heartfelt attitude of all listeners and revelers.
Even Joe Mari himself is trapped in this wonderful feeling, a mix of joy and anticipation.
In one of his performances in the past, the veteran crooner with a velvety voice, turned emotional as he sang his Christmas signature song in a mall in the third-quarter part of the year yet.
According to the Chinoy singer in an interview with entertainment broadcast journalist Nelson Canlas, he was teary-eyed when the audience sang along with him to the melody and lyrics of the song.
He said it was July yet but the crowd requested him to sing the well-loved holiday song.
“Young and old alike, they were singing with me,” said Joe Mari.
All TV and radio, includung online shows, want Chan to guest in them to perform the song and eventually feel the happiness and surprises Christmas.brings.
