Group elects officers, vows continued help to distressed OFWs

A non-government organization has recently elected its new set of officers and vowed anew to continue extending assistance to overseas Filipino workers (OFW) and their families in coordination with the concerned offices of the government and migrant workers’ recruitment agencies and foreign counterpart offices.

The newly elected officers of Overseas Filipino Worldwide (OFW) United Movement For Peace Justice and Progress Inc. (OFWUMFPJPI) include OFW welfare advocate Tito “Kanayon Titus” T. Perez, president; Engr. Alongan “Al” Disomimba vice president; Atty. Mark Anthony B. Ploteña, secretary general/ treasurer: Rey H. Canlas, auditor who is also the incumbent Qatar chapter president; and journalist Tirso N. Paglicawan, Jr., presently the editor-in-chief of The Market Monitor.

Primarily organized to help rescue OFWs who are victims of abuse and exploitation, OFWUM FPJPI was registered on 30 July 2004 at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) with company registration no. CN200411608.

Further, the said group shall also endeavor to provide revitalized social services and family welfare assistance on “Reintegration Program” ranging from business counselling, free legal advice, financial literacy forum/seminars, networking with support institutions, cooperative ventures and its formation, livelihood development, assisting in processing of micro financing and microlending and other loans be it in form of housing, business and livelihood packages.

Induction of the group shall soon be announced.
