The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines clarified Friday that the alleged mastermind in the Binondo drum murder is not Taiwanese, but a Chinese national.
TECO said verification procedures revealed that the suspect’s purported Taiwanese passport was forged. “After carefully examining the passport presented by the suspect, this Office confirms that the document is a forged Taiwanese passport,” the office stated.
A TECO officer personally interviewed the suspect, who failed to provide a valid Taiwan national ID and admitted to being a Chinese citizen. The suspect also confessed to purchasing the fraudulent passport via the Telegram application.
The 32-year-old male, allegedly responsible for the dismemberment of a body found inside a drum in Binondo on February 15, was arrested Thursday in Parañaque City.
Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin of the National Capital Region Police Office said the suspect, using the alias Xiangyang, was apprehended around 1:30 p.m. at a hotel along Seaside Boulevard.
