The rehabilitation of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) is now 60 percent complete, according to Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon.
After inspecting the project site on Thursday, Dizon said the first phase of the rehabilitation has reached the 60-percent milestone roughly three months after construction began in December 2025.
“The project is now 60 percent (complete) since it started in December 2025, along Roxas Boulevard. From Pasay City to Orense to Makati City,” he said.
The project is intended to improve safety and accessibility along the country’s busiest highway by expanding sidewalks in several sections of EDSA to better accommodate pedestrians and commuters.
“So many are commuting in EDSA. This is life-threatening since there is no sidewalk, people are walking on the road. It’s really dangerous,” Dizon said.
“We need to have (the sidewalk). The bike lane, we will include it in the sidewalk, like what we see in other countries.”
Dizon said the project supports the directive of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to transform EDSA into a commuter-focused and pedestrian-friendly corridor.
Current works include asphalt overlay and concrete reblocking along portions of the highway.
The second phase of the rehabilitation, which will cover the Orense to Cubao section, will start immediately after the first phase is completed.
The public works department earlier said that after the EDSA rehabilitation, its next major road undertaking will be the upgrading of Circumferential Road 5 (C-5 Road), a major route connecting Taguig City, Pasig City, Quezon City, and Las Piñas City.
