Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Francis Tolentino reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting workers’ rights and welfare despite the temporary restraining order (TRO) that has halted the implementation of the minimum wage increase in the National Capital Region.
Tolentino assured workers that the DOLE continues to support the wage hike and has assigned its lawyers to assist the Office of the Solicitor General in representing the government during court proceedings involving the TRO.
The labor chief said the department remains committed to advancing workers’ dignity and welfare through the principle of tripartism, expressing confidence that the issue will be resolved through due legal process.
“I am your ally in tripartism. I am your ally in raising wages and in promoting the dignity of Filipino workers,” Tolentino said.
He urged workers to remain calm while the case is being resolved, saying he is confident that social justice will prevail and that employees will eventually receive the approved wage adjustment.
Tolentino also reiterated the DOLE’s commitment to strengthening workers’ rights through the proposed Labor Attorneys’ Office (LAO), which will provide free legal assistance to workers who need legal representation. VITO BARCELO JR.
