A New Hope for Reform at the Bureau of Customs

The recent oath-taking ceremony led by Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno marks another significant step in the Bureau of Customs’ (BOC) continuing journey toward reform and modernization. Among its notable initiatives is the filing of cases against companies that failed to deliver balikbayan boxes entrusted to them by overseas Filipinos. Equally important is the Bureau’s aggressive campaign against smuggling operations, which have resulted in the seizure of goods worth billions of pesos. These efforts help safeguard government revenues, protect legitimate businesses, and prevent the entry of illegal products into the country.
