A typically busy day for the NCSC

All is set for the three-day NCSC-WHO PPASC national validation workshop in Cebu

Things are looking great for the country’s 12 million plus senior citizens as the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) tackle the national validation workshop of the PPASC at Bai Hotel in Mandaue City, Cebu on Wednesday.

Slated July 19-21, the two basic objectives of the NCSC and WHOis to present and validate with stakeholders the draft Philippine Plan of Action for Senior Citizens (PPASC) 2023-2028 and to develop guidelines for the Philippine Age Friendly Cities and Communities (PAFCC).

It also seeks to address the evolving needs and challenges faced by the elderly population in our country as dozens of stakeholders strive to create an inclusive and age-friendly society, knowing that it is crucial to gather input and insights from experts to ensure the effectiveness and relevance of the plan.

The National Validation Workshop will serve as a platform for discussion, collaboration, and validation of the strategic directions and key initiatives outlined in the PPASC 2023-2028. 

Participants in this workshop will have the opportunity to contribute your valuable expertise and insights which play a vital role in shaping policies and programs that will positively impact the loves of senior citizens across the country.

In July 2021, a virtual Round Table Discussion was facilitated to discuss the concept of Age Friendly Cities and Communities and identify the role of the agencies and organizations in making Philippine Cities and communities more age friendly. 

Thirteen government agencies stipulated under RA 11350 attended and presented the programs for senior citizens of each organization. This was followed by a series of open space workshop and discussions which form part of the internal assessment of the 2022 Plan of Action for Senior Citizens. 

The draft PPASC 2023-2028 was developed in July 2022 and a recent write shop was conducted to firm up the plan.

Among the gov’t agencies, NGOs and private sector stakeholders present in this event are the Dep’t of Interior and Local Government, Dep’t of Social Welfare and Development, Dep’t of Health, Dep’t of Agriculture, Dep’t of Agrarian Reform, Dep’t of Justice, Dep’t Labor and Employment, National Economic Development Authority and Dep’t of Education and Dep’t of Transportation,

Also included are Commission on Higher Education, Dep’t of Science and Technology, Dep’t of Trade and Industry, Housing and Urban Development, National, Nutrition Council, Dep’t of Foreign Affairs, Dep’t of Migrant Workers, Commission on Human Rights, Dep’t of Education, Dep’t of Information and Communications Technology, Philippine Commission on Women, DPWH, Philippine Sports Commission and PopCom.
