The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Friday deported 91 Chinese nationals arrested for working in unauthorized Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hubs and illegal mining operations.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the group left aboard a Philippine Airlines flight to China via Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 in Pasay City on Sept. 19. The deportation was arranged with assistance from the Chinese Embassy.
The deportees were among those apprehended in joint raids with the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission on POGO hubs in Pasay and Parañaque, as well as mining operations in Homonhon, Samar. Others remain in custody due to pending court cases.
Viado stressed the government’s firm stance against foreign nationals abusing their stay in the country. “We remain steadfast in enforcing our immigration laws. Those who engage in unlawful activities will be dealt with accordingly,” he said.
The deportation, led by the BI’s Deportation and Implementation Unit, was carried out in coordination with law enforcement agencies and in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to crack down on illegal POGO activities.
