Bulacan raid yields P43-M worth of illegal electronics

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) confiscated P43.36 million worth of electronics in Meycauayan, Bulacan, as part of the government’s crackdown on illegal manufacturing and distribution of consumer goods.

CIDG chief Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said in a statement last week that the operation, dubbed Oplan Megashopper, was carried out on February 5 with a search warrant for violations of Republic Act 7394, or the Consumer Act of the Philippines.

Four suspects were arrested, including Chi Ho, the Chinese owner of Hot Screen Electric Corporation in Barangay Libtong, Sterling Industrial Park.

The operation targeted large-scale illegal manufacturing and distribution activities that undermine legitimate businesses and threaten the country’s economy.

Torre emphasized that the government’s priority is to protect consumer rights, promote fair business practices, and uphold industry standards.

Authorities seized 3,183 units of smart televisions of various brands and sizes, along with TV assembly components, LED boards, monitors, remote controls, power supplies, speakers, and other electronic parts. Documents, stickers, and assembly tools were also confiscated.

The suspects have been charged before the National Prosecution Service for violating Article 18 (a) of RA 7394, which prohibits the manufacture, sale, distribution, or importation of consumer products that fail to meet quality or safety standards set by Philippine law.

“Rest assured that your CIDG is relentless and unyielding in going after all criminals and criminal networks who engage in economic sabotage and violate the law of the land, to ensure a level playing field for lawful businesses, protect consumer rights, and safeguard the country’s economy,” Torre said.
