Sara impeachment won’t hurt economy, says Marcos

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. dismissed concerns that the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte would negatively affect the Philippine economy.

“I doubt it very much,” Marcos said when asked last week about the government’s preparedness for any economic repercussions from the proceedings.

“Wala naman akong nakikitang magiging effect na ganon,” he added, emphasizing that the administration remains committed to its investment plans, economic strategies, and structural reforms.

“Yun lang naman ang tinitingnan ng investors, so I don’t think it will have any effect,” the President said, referring to the ongoing impeachment process.

The impeachment complaint, backed by at least 215 members of the House of Representatives, was sent directly to the Senate for trial. It includes serious accusations such as conspiracy to assassinate President Marcos, First Lady Liza Marcos, and Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.

Additional charges involve the alleged misuse of P612.5 million in confidential funds, bribery and corruption within the Department of Education (DepEd), unexplained wealth, and failure to disclose assets.

Duterte also faces accusations related to extrajudicial killings, destabilization, insurrection, and public disorder, among other alleged offenses during her tenure.
