The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is fast-tracking construction of the Cavite segment of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) to ensure its completion by third quarter of 2025.
DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan reported that the 8.64-kilometer Subsection 3, which includes the Governor’s Drive Interchange, is 44% complete, bringing the overall progress of the 44.58-kilometer expressway to 68%.
Once completed, Subsection 3 will be the longest operational stretch of CALAX, linking the Silang Aguinaldo Interchange and further easing travel between Cavite and Laguna.
Bonoan said right-of-way acquisition for the Laguna segment has been completed, while the Cavite segment is now at 90.71%.
Currently, 17.4 kilometers of CALAX are open to motorists, featuring four interchanges and one toll barrier in Laguna and Cavite.
MPCALA Holdings Inc., the project’s developer, vowed to complete CALAX by 2025, after reporting that Subsection 1 at the Kawit Interchange is now over 31% complete and Subsection 2 at the Open Canal Interchange at 21.9%.
Once fully operational, the 45-kilometer expressway will stretch from Mamplasan Rotunda in Laguna to Kawit, Cavite, integrating with major road networks to enhance connectivity between Cavite, Laguna and Metro Manila.
It will feature eight interchanges: Laguna Technopark, Laguna Boulevard, Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Road, Silang East, Silang Aguinaldo, Governor’s Drive, Open Canal and Kawit Interchange.
