THE Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) recently announced the winners of its 2016 Ballet Competition, held at the CCP Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theater) last month.
Ballet dancers from different parts of the country competed in the Junior Category (13 to 18 years old) on November 17, and in the Senior Category (19 to 25 years old) on November 19.

The competition consisted of two parts. The first part was a rendition of classical variations; the second, a performance of a contemporary piece.
The winners in the Junior Category were Nicole Klaudine Barroso (first prize), Maria Michaella Carreon (second prize), and Brian John Sevilla (third prize).
The Trudl Dubsky Zipper Award for Contemporary Choregoraphy (Junior Category) went to Gerardo Francisco, the choreographer of “Ili Ili”, which was interpreted by Joshua Rey Enciso.
In the Senior Category, separate awards were given to the females and males. The female winners were Irene Kim Abrogena (second prize) and Aisha Josephine Polestico (third prize). The male winners were Godwin Merano (first prize), Al Frederick Abraham (second prize), and Matthew Davo (third prize)
The Trudl Dubsky Zipper Award for Choreography (Senior Category) went to Gebvelle Ray Selga, the choreographer of “Empty”, which was interpreted by third-placer Abraham.
The first-prize winners received P35,000; the second-placers, P25,000; and the third-prize winners, P15,000. The two Trudl Dubsky Zipper award winners each received P10,000. Gift certificates from the Dance Store and That’s D Pointe Dance Shop were also given.
The competition jury was made up of Filipinos Jeng Halili, Mia Mañosa, Melanie Motus, and Raul Sauz; and South Korean Dr. Jae Keun Park.
