He was Superstar and National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Nora Aunor’s perennial love team who just two months ago paid his final respects to her on his limping body.
Victor Laurel, also known in the four walls of showbiz and larger society as Cocoy Laurel, one of Nora’s best friends, succumbed to the weakness of his mortal body but not in spirit.
Victor, as officially announced by his family, died on Saturday, June 14, 2025 without revealing its cause.
Laurel, son of the late Vice-President Salvador H. Laurel and arts patroness and theater actress Celiz Diaz Laurel, was a famous stage, television and movie actor.
He was one of the most sought-after leading men of Aunor in the big screen drama-musicals “Lollipops and Roses,” “Lollipops and Roses and Burong Talangka” and “Impossible Dream” which were box-office hits in the 70s.
Laurel as an exponent of theatrical productions particularly plays at the Repertory Philippines was also a gifted singer and visual artist.
Cocoy also played the devilish Engineer in the Australian edition of “Miss Saigin.”
Victor’s material body must be gone but his artistic spirit lives on.
He was 72.
