Jinggoy blasts China Coast Guard for ‘bullying’ Phl ship in EEZ

Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada on Friday condemned the China Coast Guard (CCG) for tailing and obstructing the BRP Teresa Magbanua near Bajo de Masinloc, calling the incident a blatant act of aggression inside the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

Estrada slammed China’s continued harassment of Philippine vessels, saying the latest provocation on July 15 was part of a pattern of dangerous and unlawful behavior that defies international law.

“Muli na namang nagpamalas ng dahas ang China Coast Guard,” Estrada said. “At ngayon, pilit pa nilang binabaluktot ang katotohanan para palabasing mali ang isinagawang maritime patrol ng BRP Teresa Magbanua.”

The senator pointed out that it has been nine years since the Permanent Court of Arbitration ruled in favor of the Philippines and invalidated China’s sweeping claims over the West Philippine Sea — yet Beijing continues to defy the landmark ruling.

“China has been relentless in harassing not just our maritime patrols, but also Filipino scientists and fisherfolk,” Estrada said. “This must stop.”

He also reiterated his full support for the Philippine Coast Guard, urging them to stand their ground amid increasing provocations.

“No amount of intimidation or bullying can ever erase the truth — that our sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea are backed by international law,” he said. “Walang sinumang puwedeng agawin ang para sa atin.”

Estrada’s strong statement adds to growing public and diplomatic outrage over China’s aggressive behavior in contested waters — a flashpoint that continues to test Philippine sovereignty and regional peace.
