Students at the State University of Northern Negros (SUNN) are transitioning to digital transactions following the launch of Land Bank of the Philippines’ Cash-Lite Campus Program on Feb. 19, 2026.
The initiative covers over 2,000 students and campus partners, enabling tuition payments, food purchases, and other school transactions through secure digital banking channels, reducing reliance on cash.
The launch was led by LANDBANK President and CEO Lynette V. Ortiz and SUNN President Renante A. Egcas.
“Today’s students belong to one of the most technologically fluent generations in history — highly connected, adaptable, and comfortable in the digital space. Introducing them early to the formal banking system through secure digital channels is essential to advancing inclusive growth and nurturing a generation that actively participates in the economy,” Ortiz said.
Beyond cashless payments, the program promotes budgeting, saving, and secure digital spending habits. Egcas said, “Through this partnership between LANDBANK and SUNN, students will experience firsthand how financial technology integrates into everyday life, strengthening their digital literacy, financial responsibility, and adaptability—essential skills that will empower them to thrive both locally and globally.”
Ahead of the launch, students opened PISO Plus Accounts via the LANDBANK Mobile Banking App with no initial deposit or maintaining balance. They were also trained to use QR-enabled Person-to-Merchant (P2M) payments.
“As a first-time user of cash-lite technology, I find it very convenient. Especially nowadays na grabe na ang scamming sa online banking. Through LANDBANK MBA, it helps me ensure that my money is safe and makes me feel at ease,” said SUNN student Charamae C. Maguate.
SUNN has also adopted the Link.BizPortal, logging over 1,000 transactions worth nearly ₱1.5 million as of 2025. Nationwide, the program has reached nearly 10,000 students and campus stakeholders.
Earlier this month, LANDBANK rolled out the initiative at Metro Dumaguete College, the first higher education institution in the Visayas to adopt a fully cash-lite ecosystem. The program has likewise been implemented at Central Luzon State University and Palawan State University, with more campus launches planned across the country in 2026.
