Martin Nievera remains grounded after 42 years in showbiz. The Concert King declared in a recent media conference: “If you really go with the stages that you go through, there’s only one thing in showbiz that is constant and true. And that’s there’s someone who will always replace you. Someone will always be better than you. Always.”
Martin admits being anxious and nervous about his forthcoming concert at the Araneta Coliseum,” “The King 4ever.”
It has been years since he last did a show there.
Ogie Alcasid is Martin’s co-producer. Ogie and wife Regine Velasquez own ATeamPH, the company producing the concert.
The Concert King confided to the media:
“Actually every concert, may kaba ako (I get nervous). Siyempre, hindi ko alam ang (Of course, I don’t trust my) capabilities ko at this age.
“At this point in my career, 42 years (in the industry), sanay na sanay na ako sa (I am used to) theater shows, sa intimate na shows. But it doesn’t mean that I prefer that over the big ones or ginagawa ko yon dahil wala na kong (I’m doing it because I din’t have) chance or tiwala sa sarili ko (trust in myself) to do a big show.”
Ogie had to convince Martin to do the Big Dome concert.
Martin further bared to the media: “I really didn’t want to do it only because parang feeling ko, I don’t need it. I’ve proven myself already.
“You (media people) have given me this title na ‘Concert King,’ happy na ako diyan.
“But you want me to do a big, big show? Medyo nai-stress ako ngayon (I am a bit stressed) if I have the same tools that I had the same before.”
He was at his prime when he was endowed with the tag “Concert King.”
He now admits the title affected him.
“At that time, it can really get to your head. Talagang yumabang ako. Talagang mayabang si Martin (I became swell-headed. Martin was really full of himself). .
“At hindi dahil sa (And not because of the) title. I never paid attention to that title. But I really acted as some diva king before. Even my own family would remind me, ‘You better shape up kasi you won’t be popular forever.’
“King 4ever” goes on stage at the Big Dome on September 27 at 8pm. (Audie See)
