MMDA promotes sustainable waste management

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday highlighted efforts to improve waste management in the National Capital Region through its “Road to Zero Waste” expo.

The expo, part of the agency’s zero-waste campaign, aims to promote sustainable waste management practices. It featured unified materials recovery systems across Metro Manila under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s “Kalinisan sa Bagong Pilipinas” program, which emphasizes environmental responsibility and proper solid waste management.

Exhibit booths showcased eco-friendly products such as compost, coco pots, lily pots, ecobricks, and compressed stabilized earth blocks, demonstrating the potential of sustainable waste practices.

“With solid waste management interventions currently being implemented in collaboration with local government units

and the private sector, we are confident in achieving a cleaner Metro Manila soon,” said MMDA Chair Romando Artes during the event at the agency’s Motorcycle Riding Academy in Pasig City.

MMDA General Manager Procopio Lipana urged stakeholders to adopt waste reduction practices and foster partnerships.

“To reach our goals, all stakeholders must work together to create unified systems and infrastructure, build partnerships, connect businesses, and strategize waste diversion with recyclers,” Lipana emphasized.
