National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin has directed intensified police patrols and targeted operations to deter criminals disguising themselves as motorcycle taxi and delivery riders across Metro Manila.
Aberin said coordination has already been made with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and major motorcycle taxi companies to help distinguish legitimate riders from those using uniforms and gear to commit crimes.
“The NCRPO took this matter seriously as a critical issue of public safety and brand integrity,” Aberin stressed.
With the start of classes on June 16 (today), Aberin emphasized the need for heightened security, citing a recent operation on June 6 in several Quezon City bus terminals—common gathering spots for motorcycle riders.
“This joint proactive action was made following increasing concerns over unauthorized individuals wearing ride-hailing uniforms to pose as legitimate riders while allegedly engaging in criminal activities such as hold-ups, shootings, and kidnappings,” he said.
More joint operations are being planned to address the rising threat.
“This operation is a reflection of our swift and responsive public service, our unity with partner agencies, and our accountability to protect the public from criminal elements who exploit trust and identity,” Aberin added.
