No. It wasn’t at all a gimmick which Nora Aunor has been associated with, especially in the past controversies, if not outlandish gestures and pronnouncements.
It was real as anything that Nora had to be wheelchair-bound because of her foot to get to the hall of the GSIS Theater where she would be feted with post-birthday celebration. “Ang sakit-sakit kasi ng paa ko (My foot aches a lot),” chuckled Aunor at the theater lounge after the screening of the 1984 classic film “Bulaklak sa City Jail” which she starred in, written by Lualhati Bautista and directed by Mario O’Hara.
Guy’s right socked foot wasn’t wearing a shoe and she was once in a while excruciating with pain.
“Maga po kasi ang kanang paa ni Ate Guy (The right foot of Ate–a term of endearment to an older woman by birth or affinity–Guy is swollen),” affirmed Marie Cusi, an ardent Noranian.
However, despite Nora’s aching foot, the singing and serenading of her well-wishers composed mostly of Noranians went on.
Cinderella’s “Ikaw ang Superstar ng Buhay Ko” reverberated in the air.
At this point, La Aunor bowed her head and sobbed.
Then she turned her head up, her eyes still showing red and welling in tears.
From the backstage, a cake was brought to the Superstar who carefully blew its candle.
A few minutes later, Guy was whisked away to the inner chamber of the hall and the Cine Icons forum facilitated by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) began.
