A P40-million classroom building in Babag 1 Elementary School in Cebu has started to provide an additional eight classrooms to the school, which was among those heavily damaged by Typhoon Odette in 2021.
Officials from Lapu-Lapu City led the groundbreaking of the new four-story building early this month.
It is expected to be completed by April next year.
The new school building will also be equipped with closed-circuit television (CCTV) security cameras ensuring a safe environment for both students and staff.
Lapu-Lapu City Rep. Cindi King-Chan highlighted the significance of renovation and upgrading school facilities, particularly the devastation of Typhoon Odette that affected most infrastructures in the city.
She said that investing in schools is crucial for the future of the children, particularly in providing access to safe and conducive learning environments.
Aside from King-Chan, other officials present in the groundbreaking ceremony were Vice Mayor Celedonio “Celsi” Sitoy, members of the city council, Barangay Babag officials, Schools Division Superintendent Marilyn Andales, and representatives from the contractor.
