As part of the continuing collaboration with international counterparts, The Office for Transportation Security (OTS), Transport Canada and United States – Transportation Security Administration, held a three-day workshop on Aviation Security – Quality Control from Nov. 19 to 22, 2024 in Makati City.
The workshop aimed to enhance the capability of National Aviation Security Auditors and internal quality control auditors of airports and airlines to implement quality measures, to ensure the adequate implementation of security measures based on international and national standards.
The four-day workshop was facilitated by Transport Canada Senior Aviation Security Policy Advisor Jan-Paul Hanley who provided participants with his insights on how to assess the effectiveness of security measures. By emphasizing quality control measures, the workshop ensures that security practices were systematically evaluated and improved.
Participants also conducted infiltration tests to identify vulnerabilities in their current systems, and to develop actionable strategies for addressing identified vulnerability and weaknesses in the systems.
OTS Administrator Undersecretary Crizaldo O. Nieves emphasized the critical role of civil aviation.
“Civil aviation is more than a means of transportation. It serves as a lifeline or a vital artery that connects diverse cultures, bolsters economic ties, and strengthens international relationships.” Usec. Nieves said.
Attending the workshop were 21 representatives from OTS, New NAIA Infra Corp., Philippine Airlines and Manila International Airport Authority.
