The Philippine National Police (PNP) said last week it is prepared to secure the upcoming third part of the anti-corruption protest, the Trillion Peso March, scheduled later this month.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) units will lead the deployment of personnel and resources for the event.
PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said, “We are now reviewing and updating our security plan for this event. The goal is to ensure peace and order while respecting the rights of the people to assemble and freedom of speech.”
The rally, set for Feb. 25, is organized by Caritas Philippines in coordination with other civil society groups, with preliminary activities running from Feb. 22 to 23.
Nartatez said police commanders will meet with organizers to ensure safety and orderly conduct. “We seek the cooperation of organizers and participants in working with us to ensure that the event will be peaceful and orderly from start to end,” he added, noting similar security measures are expected in provinces hosting related activities.
Ahead of the march, a concert dubbed the People Power 40 Kick-Off Concert will be held on Feb. 21 at Quezon Memorial Circle. The event will spotlight the fight against corruption and feature performers including Ogie Alcasid, Janno Gibbs, Rivermaya, Ice Seguerra, Ebe Dancel, Pio Balbuena, Morobeats, Elmo Magalona, Arkin Magalona, Chelsea Alley, and Over October.
Celebrity appearances will include Vice Ganda, Alex Calleja, Red Ollero, Iza Calzado, Bea Binene, and DJ JhaiHo. Organizers — Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG) and Kaya Natin! — aim to reinforce that fighting corruption is a shared responsibility. Pre-show begins at 4 p.m., with the main concert starting at 6 p.m., marking the 40th anniversary of the People Power Revolution.
