US pledges P14-B aid for Phl health programs

The Trump administration has announced a new P14 billion (USD250 million) foreign aid package to help the Philippines tackle urgent health concerns, including tuberculosis and maternal health, while strengthening defenses against emerging diseases.

“Through this assistance, our governments will work together on tuberculosis and maternal health while investing in preparedness, detection, and response capabilities,” US State Secretary Marco Rubio said Friday.

The funding, still subject to approval by the US Congress, comes on top of the P3 billion (USD63 million) in foreign assistance Rubio announced in July during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s state visit to Washington, which was earmarked for economic resilience and the Luzon Economic Corridor.

Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez hailed the latest commitment as “another clear manifestation of the deep alliance” between Manila and Washington following the Marcos-Trump talks.
