Several motoring journalists are invited to join the second edition of the Pink Argonauts Golf Tournament & Underwater Photo Competition with the underwater photo competition taking place from May 1-4 at the Aiyanar Beach and Dive Resort inAnilao, Mabini, Batangas while the golf tournament will be on May 9 at the Malarayat Golf & Country Club in Lipa, Batangas.
The “Zero to Hero Dive Master Program,” offers a transformative journey from novice to certified Dive Master. Combining diving skills with marine conservation, participants learn the intricacies of underwater exploration while actively engaging in conservation efforts which will promote dive tourism.
The Pink Argonauts is composed of divers, golfers, and conservationists that share their passion through the sport they love and at the same time giving back to the community where they operate. It is co-founded by Tessa Neri and Marivic Verdadero-Maramot while the core group is composed of Jocs Reyes, Dinah Duran, Brie Reyes, Arabelle Jimenez, Monch Henares, Joe Padua, and Marco Santos.
With the support of sponsors, The Pink Argonauts funded the PADI Dive Master certification program for locals in Mabini, Batangas through the Pink Argonauts Zero to Hero Sponsorship Program, which provides essential training from PADI Open Water to the Rescue Program. The Professional Association of Diving Instructors, the world’s leading scuba diving training organization, further supported these scholars by sponsoring their final Dive Master certification.
Five scholars will be graduating at this event, marking a significant milestone in their journey as TPA aims to increase the number of scholars to 10 to further strengthen ocean conservation efforts and providing more opportunities for the local community.
The scholars started as boatmen and fisherfolks and now they are PADI certified dive masters and Anilao dive guides. Thanks to the grassroots initiative by The Pink Argonauts, last year’s dream has come into fruition, not only for the beneficiaries but for the diving community as well. The beneficiaries mostly come from underprivileged families who live in Mabini, Batangas, and entered a rigid selection process. Last year’s inaugural event brought together over 400 participants, including golfers, underwater photographers, and marine advocates. Following the success of last year’s event, we look forward to another impactful year in 2025.
World-renowned underwater photographers who are flying from different parts of the world to the Philippines will serve as judges for the competition such as: David Doubilet – National Geographic photographer and pioneering underwater photojournalist; Jennifer Hayes – National Geographic photographer, aquatic biologist, and award-winning conservation photojournalist; and Michael Aw – Emmy Award-winning photographer and founder of Ocean Geographic. Their expertise and contributions to marine conservation bring prestige and inspiration to the event.
