LVPI gets FIVB nod as official Philippine volleyball governing body

The Federation Internationale of Volleyball (FIVB) board, in its meeting last May 5, decided to recognize the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. (LVPI) as the official governing body of volleyball in the Philippines until its next congress in 2018 when the association is set to be given full membership.

FIVB made known its decision in a letter addressed to both LVPI president Joey Romasanta and Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) chief Edgardo Cantada.

The provisional recognition grants FIVB the rights to organize international volleyball competitions in the country and field national teams in major international competitions like the Southeast Asian Games, Asian Games and the Olympics. It also formally kept PVF under suspension, as per Article 2.2.7.2 of the FIVB Constitution.

The international volleyball federation will grant full membership to LVPI on its 36th World Congress in 2018, while officially dropping PVF from the roster of organizations it recognizes.

PVF, however, may appeal the decision exclusively before the FIVB Appeals Panel in accordance with the FIVB Disciplinary Regulations.

Romasanta, who is a member of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), is attending the group’s board meeting in Bangkok, Thailand with LVPI vice president Peter Cayco to personally express his gratitude for its all-out support in their bid to gain official recognition from FIVB.
