Manila Water recently held a ceremonial groundbreaking for its Emergency Reservoir Project at the Cainta Elementary School in Barangay San Roque, Cainta, Rizal as part of its commitment to support local governments in disaster resiliency.
The simple ceremony signals the commencement of the construction of the 100-cubic-meter underground reservoir, intended to serve as a potable water source in evacuation centers, such as Cainta ES, in the aftermath of disasters and calamities.
The emergency reservoirs are designed to provide 10,000 evacuees with potable water up to three days.
Aside from the one in Cainta Elementary School, a 50-cubic-meter reservoir will also be constructed in Francisco P. Felix Memorial National High School in Barangay Sto. Domingo.
Cainta Mayor Johnielle Keith “Kit” Nieto expressed his appreciation for this project in the message he delivered during the groundbreaking ceremony.
“We welcome the construction of these water reservoirs in evacuation areas as this would be a great help in facilitating the needs of evacuees in times of calamities especially in the event that water lines will be damaged and water tankers will not be available,” said Nieto.
Manila Water aims to construct these emergency reservoirs in 22 cities and municipalities within Metro Manila’s East Zone and the Province of Rizal in its commitment to assure water service reliability even during times of calamities such as earthquakes and flooding.
