BIR chief goes hard vs fake receipt buyers

After the declaration of Commissioner Romeo Lumagui, Jr. of an all-out war vs. Fake/Ghost receipts, he will launch another skirmish, this time against the Buyers. Notices will be served to shameless buyers who continuously patronize the fraudulent activities brought by these receipts.

The notices will be served by the National Task Force – Run After Fake Transactions (RAFT). Said task force was created solely for the purpose of auditing and investigating the Buyers of Fake/Ghost Receipts.

“As I launch the Run After Fake Transactions or RAFT program in the BIR, I have just one thing in mind, the Bureau’s mission: collecting taxes through just enforcement of tax laws for nation-building and upliftment of the lives of the Filipinos. I always want to level the playing field of our taxpayers; I have filed cases against the Sellers and CPA involved, the Buyers of Fake/Ghost receipts will now be audited,” Commissioner Lumagui said.

Previously, the Commissioner mentioned that the war against Ghost Receipts will be made on three fronts: 1. Buyers, 2. Sellers, and 3. Certified Public Accountants (CPAs).

Since March 2023, the war has begun. Criminal cases have been filed before the Department of Justice against the Sellers/Ghost Corps and the CPA involved in the syndicate last March 16. An administrative complaint for the revocation of license against the same CPA has also been filed before Professional Regulation Commission last March 21.

National Task Force – RAFT reports directly to the Office of the Commissioner, a priority program under Revenue Memorandum Circular 38- 2023.

“I have the list of all the Buyers of Fake/Ghost receipts. We will remain aggressive in this campaign and will go after everyone involved until this illegal activity is stopped. I am challenging you to come clean forward and together let us be partners in nation-building,” the BIR Chief said.
