AIMS brought down St. Dominic College of Asia, 59-55, to assume the solo lead with its fourth straight win in the 30th National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) basketball tournament at the Bestlink gymnasium in Novaliches, Quezon City.
Karlos Lapira and JB Odvina provided the 1-2 punch for AIMS, which is seeking to capture the title under coach Kiko Flores.
Lapira finished with 20 points and six rebounds in 23 minutes while Odvina contributed 11 points and seven rebounds for the Sharks.
Jerico Peralta and Mark Reyes added six points for AIMS.
Edward Daquioag carried the fight for SDCA with 15 points, followed by Adrian German with seven points and five rebounds.
But Didoy Proel, one of coach Bong Dela Cruz’s ace gunners, was held to only six points on 2-of-12 shooting from the field.
Edward Clarete and Ivan Ares contributed six points for the Pikemen, who fell to 2-2.
In other matches, Olivarez College humbled Lyceum of the Philippines University-Laguna, 87-74; Philippine Merchant Marine School outclassed University of Luzon, 81-61; and defending champion Immaculada Concepcion College subdued Bestlink College of the Philippines 73-60.
Hanz Maycong, MJ Gallano and John Umali combined for 31 points for Olivarez of coach Mike Saguiguit.
Maycong recorded 12 points and five rebounds, Gallano added 10 points and six rebounds and Umali had nine points for the Stallions.
Chester Jungco, Al Dhel Haiber, and Lian Barberohad eight points.
Ivan Landicho had 22 points in a losing effort for Lyceum.
