Improved ports boost eco-tourism in Albay towns

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) entered into an agreement with the Provincial Government of Albay for the improvement of two seaports in the Municipality of Bacacay.

Signed by DOTr Undersecretary for Maritime Elmer Francisco U. Sarmiento and Albay Governor Edcel Greco Alexandre Lagman, the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) allocates P20 million each for the repair and rehabilitation of Cawayan and Pili Ports.

Recognizing the efforts of the governor’s father, Albay First District Representative Edcel Lagman who spearheaded the initiative, Usec. Sarmiento said the DOTr port projects will boost the economy and tourism of the two towns and the province.

“They (ports) facilitate trade and economic growth for the barangays and towns, and also the eco-tourism promotion of the province,” Usec Sarmiento said.

Governor Lagman, meanwhile, thanked DOTr for improving existing ports in Albay.

“It will really help the two barangays that will be the areas wherein the ports will be improved. These will be used for fishing activities and even ang eco-tourism namin when the day comes na mas integrated na ang mga ports namin sa Albay,” Governor Lagman said.
