The Marcos administration’s push for digital governance is getting a major thumbs-up from the country’s jeepney drivers and operators, as the Land Transportation Office (LTO) launches the Online Driver’s License Renewal System (ODLRS) via the eGovPH mobile app.
For many in the public transport sector, the move is a game-changer.
“Sobrang ginhawa nito,” said jeepney driver Romeo Magura, who sees the ODLRS as a long-awaited fix to the bureaucratic hassle of renewing a license. “Hindi mo na kailangan pumila o lumapit sa fixer. Diretso na sa app, tapos ide-deliver pa lisensya mo. Wala ka nang stress.”
Under the new system, licensed drivers can now renew their driver’s licenses entirely online—from booking their telemedicine appointment to completing the five-hour mandatory driving education program, paying fees digitally, and having the license delivered to their doorstep or made ready for pickup at the nearest LTO office.
“Malaking tulong ito sa mga driver na hirap magbasa,” added Rosalie, a terminal assistant. “Dahil sa app, puwedeng tumulong ang mga anak. Pwede ring gawin kahit gabi o madaling-araw, hindi na nasasayang ang oras na dapat nakabyahe na sila.”
Even major transport groups are applauding the initiative. Liga ng Transportasyon at Operators sa Pilipinas (LTOP) president Orlando Marquez described the rollout as “revolutionary,” thanking President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and LTO Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II for the reform.
“This digitalization addresses all the pain points—long lines, confusing requirements, reliance on fixers,” Marquez said. “Ngayon kahit nasa probinsya ka, o abroad, puwede kang mag-renew ng lisensya. Fixers are no longer necessary.”
Marquez urged all public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators to embrace digital transformation, stressing that such reforms are key to building a better transport system and a more efficient government.
“‘Bagong Pilipinas’ needs all of us to work together,” he said. “Supportahan natin ang mga reporma para sa mas maayos, mas mabilis na serbisyo.”
With the eGovPH app, users also receive a digital copy of their license, making verification and enforcement even more convenient for both drivers and authorities.
The ODLRS is part of the broader government effort to bring public services closer to the people—literally at their fingertips—and eliminate outdated systems that breed corruption, inefficiency, and inconvenience.
