DILG says no security threat to Sarah Discaya

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Friday assured the public that contractor Cezarah Rowena “Sarah” Discaya faces no security risk following her voluntary surrender.

“There’s no worry about any security risks. Secretary Jonvic Remulla has been coordinating closely with Justice Secretary Frederrick Vida, and legal procedures will be followed. We’re confident in the security of the jail facilities,” DILG Public Affairs Undersecretary Donnie Puno told reporters in Quezon City.

Remulla previously emphasized that Discaya has not been considered armed or dangerous, and her decision to surrender reflects accountability while ensuring a smoother legal process. Addressing suggestions that her surrender is part of a legal strategy, he made clear that “the case will be decided in the courts,” urging others with pending cases to cooperate with authorities.

Meanwhile, the DILG confirmed it has tapped local authorities to track the whereabouts of Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa following reports of a potential International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant. “He is not yet considered a fugitive… we’re just trying to keep tabs on him,” Puno said, noting that should a warrant be formally issued, the Supreme Court will allow Dela Rosa to seek recourse from local courts first.

Puno added that the Philippine National Police, as a professional body, is expected to carry out its duties in accordance with the law should any warrant be executed.
