Department of Finance (DOF) is poised for steady and effective leadership under the stewardship of  Secretary Frederick D. Go. His appointment by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reflects the administration’s confidence in his expertise, integrity, and proven capacity to manage complex economic challenges critical to national development.

As the government’s primary institution responsible for fiscal policy, revenue generation, and debt management, the DOF plays a central role in ensuring macroeconomic stability. The appointment of a leader with deep economic knowledge and extensive leadership experience is therefore not only timely but essential to sustaining the country’s growth momentum.

Go currently serves as the Secretary of the Department of Finance and as the head of the Marcos Jr. administration’s economic team. In this capacity, he is tasked with steering fiscal strategies that promote growth while maintaining prudence in government spending amid global economic uncertainty.

Prior to leading the DOF, Secretary Go served as Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs (SAPIEA). In this role, he ensured the effective integration, coordination, and execution of the administration’s investment and economic policies—an achievement that strengthened investor confidence and improved policy coherence across government agencies.

He also headed the Economic Development Committee (EDCom), where he supervised and monitored developments in key government institutions vital to long-term economic planning. Through EDCom, Secretary Go played a crucial role in aligning national priorities with sectoral strategies to accelerate inclusive growth.

One of Secretary Go’s strongest assets is his extensive background in the private sector. Before entering public service, he spent more than 35 years leading successful business enterprises, serving as Chairman, Vice-Chairman, President, Chief Executive Officer, and Director of several major corporations.

His experience spans a wide range of industries, including media, retail, real estate, food, banking, finance, aviation, airports, petrochemicals, and power. This breadth of exposure gives him a practical and grounded understanding of how government policies affect businesses, investments, and employment.

Such real-world experience is invaluable in public service, particularly in the Department of Finance, where policies must strike a balance between revenue generation, economic competitiveness, and social equity. Secretary Go’s background allows him to approach policymaking with both analytical rigor and operational realism.

Equally important is the expectation that his leadership will strengthen transparency and accountability within the agency. His corporate leadership record is anchored on disciplined management and results-oriented governance—principles that are essential in minimizing inefficiencies and curbing corruption in public institutions.

President Marcos Jr.’s trust in Secretary Go underscores the administration’s recognition that sound economic management is the foundation of national progress. A credible and well-managed DOF enhances investor confidence, stabilizes financial markets, and improves the government’s capacity to respond to economic shocks.

At a time when global inflationary pressures and geopolitical risks continue to challenge developing economies, the Philippines needs steady, data-driven, and decisive economic leadership. Secretary Go’s expertise equips him to navigate these challenges while safeguarding the country’s fiscal health.

In sum, the leadership of Acting Secretary Frederick D. Go signals a period of professionalism, stability, and strategic direction for the Department of Finance. With clear vision, strong institutional discipline, and a commitment to inclusive growth, his tenure holds promise for advancing the country’s long-term economic development.
