The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Bureau of Customs (BOC) have renewed their commitment to prevent the entry of illegal drugs and controlled precursors and essential chemicals (CPECs) into the Philippines.
The partnership was formalized Thursday in Quezon City through a memorandum of agreement signed by PDEA Director General Undersecretary Isagani Nerez and BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno.
Under the agreement, both agencies will enhance operational coordination via advanced information-sharing, integrated systems, and joint operations targeting the smuggling, importation, transport, and transshipment of illegal drugs and CPECs.
“This agreement sends a clear message to drug syndicates: our ports are not safe havens for drug trafficking. By combining PDEA’s expertise with BOC’s border control capabilities, we are determined to intercept illegal drugs before they reach our communities,” Nerez said.
The MOA also highlights digital innovation as a key component of border security, with integrated databases, pre-shipment inspection systems, and modernized scanning facilities to bolster interdiction efforts.
A centerpiece of the collaboration is the creation of a Drug Interdiction Task Group, which will oversee intelligence exchange, joint investigations of suspected drug smuggling, and the sharing of operational best practices between PDEA and BOC.
