The millenial and Gen Z idols as well as their fans have spoken about the current bleak situation of Philippine politics that is dragging the country to the pit of decay.
Enough is enough, they said.
One of the things they are protesting is the shabby treatment the minority in the Senate has been getting from the majority members of the august chamber by plotting a coup d’etat that ousted Tito Sotto as Senate President and install Alan Peter Cayetano to replace him.
Even if Cayeyano has reiterated his denial that they changed the Senate leadership to delay or bar the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte, the youth and their idols don’t believe him.
Millenials and Gen Zs are obviously tired of the shenanigans and disappointing manners of politicians in running the government to better the lives of the Filipinos.
In the forefront of the protest movement no matter virtually or on live TV are Kim Chiu and Anne Curtis.
Kim has been very vocal about the authoritarian tendencis of men in power.
Chiu’s sentiments go like this in her Facebook posts: “Nakakalungkot (Sad). That’s what happens when concern and opinion don’t align with them—gusto agad patahimikin. Nasanay na ako, (they immediately want to silence them. I am already used to it),” she said.
“Oo, Bisaya ko, pero Pilipino rin akong may karapatang magsalita at magpahayag ng saloobin. Masakit magbayad ng buwis tapos ganito ang nakikita natin (Yes, I am a Visayan but I am also a Filipino who has yhe right to exptess my thoughts. It hurts to pay taxes then we witness things like these),” she added.
Anne, on the other hand, has very striking posts about the political chaos that has been affecting badly the lives of the Filipinos.
Although she was abroad when the “Senate brouhaha” erupted, she couldn’t help but post her thoughts.
“Just caught up on the news in the Philippines. Nakakalungkot na umabot sa sitwasyon na ganun (It’s sad that it has come to this), in fact, it’s so sad that it even happened,” Anne noted.
Curtis requested her fellow citizens for a collective effort.
“I guess all we can do as citizens and voters is watch, learn, take note and continue to pray for our country,” she quipped.
In a news item, reporter Rafael Asonza quoted a netizen an appeal the actress. “Continue to use your platform and influence to encourage Filipinos to vote for the right gov’t officials who would truly serve the country. Hindi yung mga magnanakaw, mamamatay tao at traydor (Not the thieves, killers and traitors,” said netizen.
Meanwhile, the ardent fans of Kim and Anne are just as vocal at their idols.
Many netizens of their mold have been posting and spreading concerned thoughts about the sorry state of Philippine politics that should have helped the Filipinos delivered from innocence and poverty. Instead of pushing for progress and national development, dirty politicians crushed them to the pit of destruction.
