Alarmed by the growing number of deaths due to road accidents yearly in the country, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will conduct a forum on road safety this week.
The forum is in line with the celebration of May as Road Safety Month.
The MMDA-Institute of Traffic Management (ITM) has organized the daylong forum to be headlined by resource persons from local government traffic-enforcement offices and private motoring institutions, such as the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP).
Invited to speak at the forum are Land Transportation Office Director Francis Almora, who will talk on the “Issues and Challenges of Law Enforcement in Promoting Road Safety;” Augusto Lagman of the AAP, who will discuss “Private Sector Assessment of the State of Road Safety;” and Prulife UK Assistant Vice President for Brand and Communication Gizelle Camua, who will tackle “Safe Steps: A Road Safety Advocacy.”
The MMDA also lined up several activities during the event at the MMDA compound in Makati City, including holding an exhibition and featuring road-safety product display by various organizations and companies.
There will also be a film showing at the agency’s redemption center, where drivers can watch Road Safety videos, after which an ITM staff will ask questions to the drivers about the video. Anyone who answers the questions will be given freebies from the sponsors.
