THE Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) opened last Thursday artists Jippy Pascua and Dennese Victoria’s latest exhibit Myth, described as the result of “a survey of years’ worth of photographs,” at its Pasilyo Victorio Edades.
In a statement, the CCP said that, although it is an “installation of photographs, Myth is not so much about the individual images, as it is about questioning how and why Pascua and Victoria have accumulated, kept, and eventually selected the images for the exhibition.”
“The images that shape this exhibition are from a survey of years’ worth of photographs; the pictures [vary] from ones taken from personal archives, to a few taken while on the sets of films, to a couple of found photographs of strangers from lives long lived and past.”
Pascua studied creative advertising in Canada and has been making films since 2008. His short film Excerpts premiered at the 2014 Singapore International Film Festival as part of its Southeast Asian Short Film Competition Program. His works have been exhibited in various venues individually and as part of a collective of artists working mainly with film and photography called Tito &Tita.
Victoria studied journalism at the University of Santo Tomas. In 2011, she interned at a weekly television documentary program and later worked there until 2014. The CCP described her images as revolving “around the themes of truth, memory, and personal history.”
The two will talk about the exhibition on Aug. 18, 4 p.m., at the CCP’s Bulwagang Pambansang Alagad ng Sining (MKP Hall).
Myth runs until Aug. 21. Viewing hours are from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call the CCP Visual Arts and Museum Division, Production and Exhibition Department, at (632) 832-1125, local 1504/1505 or (632) 832-3702, or visit www.culturalcenter.gov.ph.
