Artist-musician Lava holds first solo show at CCP

The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) is set to open the first solo exhibit of artist and musician Vinty Lava, titled Yellow Green Sound Town, on Oct. 7, 6 p.m., at the CCP’s Bulwagang Fernando Amorsolo (Small Gallery).

In Yellow Green Sound Town, Lava’s reimagining of characters is spawned from the repository of the music used for his videos. He investigates the evocative power of sound to entwine locations with notes, seasons with rhythm, and people with the encompassing musical tone. His video installations simulate the fictional world he wants his viewers to immerse in.

Inversely, some of the images he uses are amalgamations of the two-dimensional characters he introduces in his paintings. This allows him to retain the subliminal dimension of music and provides the audience with the role of interpreting the images and sound independently.

To enhance the exhibit, Lava will be giving an artist’s talk on Oct. 19, 4 p.m., at the CCP’s Bulwagang Pambansang Alagad ng Sining (National Artists Hall) or MKP Hall.

Yellow Green Sound Town will run until Nov. 20. Viewing hours are from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call the CCP Visual Arts & Museum Division, Production & Exhibition Department at (632) 832-1125, local 1504/1505, (632) 832-3702, or (0917) 603-3809; send an e-mail to ccp.exhibits@gmail.com; or visit www.culturalcenter.gov.ph.
