Building Thriving Communities in Manila, QC and Bulacan Through The SMDC Good Guys Health & Wellness Caravan

In pursuit of raising awareness among young people about their well-being, SM Development Corporation (SMDC) partnered with the Manila Police District (MPD) and Quezon City Police District (QCPD) for a simultaneous Balik Eskwela Wellness program last August 1.

The program held at MPD Hall in Manila and Brgy. Sto. Cristo, Quezon City, is part of SMDC’s ongoing “The Good Guys Health and Wellness Caravan,” where they go around communities across the country that are in need of basic health services.

The MPD, QCPD, and Sto. Cristo barangay officials headed by Captain Raymart John Mac Navarro prepared the venue, manpower, as well as some of the medicines. Meanwhile, the Philippine National Red Cross provided the majority of the medicines needed for the wellness program.

“We are thankful to organizations like SMDC for holding medical missions such as this, especially during a time when looking after our health is of prime importance,” said Ms. Janice Adolfo of Philippine Red Cross Quezon City Chapter.

The MPD Head of Community Affairs Col. Julius Caesar Domingo said that this event is a great help to thousands of residents in Manila. “With our Balik Eskwela Wellness program, we are able to assist parents in providing proper healthcare for their children.”

“We are grateful for SMDC in helping us mount an event such as this. We hope that we can collaborate for more programs that will uplift the lives of our constituents in the coming months,” QCPD Community Affairs head Col. Benjamin Ariola added.

Now in its third year, the Good Guys Health and Wellness Caravan continues to provide comprehensive health checks and wellness care to communities where SMDC developments are located. Helping SMDC ensure that their communities are cared for in the best possible way are its growing network of partners, including SM Foundation Inc., SM Supermalls, the Philippine National Red Cross, and various local government units around the country.

Last April, more than 500 Bulakeños were provided with free medical check-ups, including vital signs monitoring and basic diagnostic examinations like blood chemistry. SMDC also partnered with doctors to provide free dental check-ups and extraction, as well as free eye check-ups and eyeglasses.

“We are truly grateful for the assistance that SMDC continues to provide our communities here in Bulacan. You have really shown us what it’s like to have a community of good guys you can rely on in sickness and in health,” said Barangay Pagala Captain Mark Anthony Velasquez

Aside from the free check-ups, thousands of free medicines and other health supplements were also given during the caravan.

To date, the caravan has served more than 5,000 Filipinos in various locations in the Philippines with free access to quality medical services. Anchored on the belief that people living in secure and healthy environments make a happy community,

SMDC continues its commitment as it brings The Good Guys Health and Wellness caravan to Brgy. Nagkaisang Nayon this coming September 15, 2022.
