Christian John ‘CJ’ Doyon became the youngest-ever recipient of the National Association of Filipino Off-Roader (NASFOR) Driver of the Year which he received at the Golden Wheel Awards at the Golden Pavilion last Feb. 28 in Pasay City.
The 22-yearold CJ is a member of the FCC Racing Team and Ormoc 4Wheelers who started his racing career at the early age of 13.
“My father Geronimo is my idol and I really wanted to duplicate his feat when he was adjudged as the off-road champion way back in 2006. He was the one who egged me to join off-roading when I was still young,” CJ said.
CJ is a lone recipient of the Garbo sa Ormoc Award, an award given to outstanding sports achiever being given by the Ormoc LGU, after he ruled the 2023 national off-road championships.
Now a 3rd year Business Administration college student at Western Leyte College of Ormoc, one would wonder how CJ juggles his academic schedule with his interest. Firstly, everything’s made a lot easier because of his very supportive family – Dad Gerry, who is a former NASFOR Driver of the Year (2006) himself, Mom Shierel who never stopped encouraging CJ, and sister Christine who, unlike other older sisters, has her baby brother’s back. Always. Then there’s CJ school who’ve been equally supportive of his extra-curricular activity. It’s no surprise, really, since CJ also excelled in his academics. Last but not least, there’s the Ormoc City LGU. As a matter of fact, CJ was given the Garbo sa Ormoc Award by the LGU last October, recognizing his achievements as an off-roader and Ormocanon.
After racing from 2015 to 2020, CJ went on a hiatus during the pandemic and shifted his interest to mountain biking. It wasn’t only in 2022 that CJ got back into racing.
