DOTr-SAICT intensifies anti-colorum campaign

The Department of Transportation (DOTr), through its Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT), is cracking down on illegal transportation operations in a major push for safer, legitimate public transport this holiday season.  The intensified campaign yielded significant results.

Recent operations by SAICT’s Special Operations Group (SOG) netted seven colorum public utility vehicles (PUVs) in Metro Manila’s northern and southern areas. This action underscores the DOTr’s commitment to passenger safety and fair competition within the transportation industry.

The crackdown yielded the following seizures:

  • Two vans en route to Bicol: Originating from an unregistered terminal in Quezon City, these vehicles were apprehended before they could reach their destination.
  • Two private vans headed to Ilocos: These were caught near the Partas Terminal, charging exorbitant fares of ₱1,000 per passenger – significantly higher than regulated rates.
  • Three airport vans operating illegally:  These vehicles were operating from the Harvard St. terminal in Cubao, charging passengers between ₱2,300 and ₱2,500.

SAICT issued a stern warning to franchise holders against collaborating with colorum operators.  Such partnerships, SAICT emphasized, carry significant risks and potential legal repercussions.

DOTr is urging the public to actively participate in maintaining safe and reliable transportation.

Passengers are encouraged to report any suspicious or unauthorized transportation services to the Commuter Hotline at 0920-964-3687. Vigilance is crucial in helping dismantle the colorum network and ensuring a safer holiday travel experience for everyone.
