Members and pensioners of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) residing in areas declared under a state of calamity due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name Trami) are now eligible to apply for emergency loans.
In a statement released on Friday, GSIS announced that this program is currently available in Albay and Naga City, with plans to activate it in other calamity-declared areas.
Members without an existing emergency loan can borrow up to PHP 20,000, while those with outstanding balances may apply for loans up to PHP 40,000. The loan carries an interest rate of 6 percent per annum and is repayable over three years.
To qualify for the emergency loan, applicants must be actively employed, not on leave without pay, free from any pending administrative or legal cases, and must have made at least six months of premium payments. Additionally, they should have a net take-home pay of at least PHP 5,000.
Pensioners are also eligible if their net pension remains at least 25 percent of their total pension after deducting the loan amortization.
GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso encouraged members and pensioners to utilize the GSIS Touch app for a safe and efficient loan application process.
“GSIS Touch provides a secure, fast, and user-friendly way to apply for loans, track premium payments, and access membership and pension records directly from their mobile devices,” Veloso explained.
For those needing assistance with the GSIS Touch app, customer service is available 24/7 to help.
