Barring major hitches and glitches, the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) will soon have its own regional office in the province of Cebu.
This developed after Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia expressed willingness to help NCSC find a place for the construction of its regional office preferably in Cebu City.
Seizing the huge opportunity, NCSC Chairman Franklin Quijano immediately asked her staff to prepare the groundwork for quick implementation of the planned project.
In addition, Gov. Gwen also said that she would like to work with the Capitol in providing health insurance coverage to senior citizens in the province.
Though everything is still in the drawing board during the initial meeting with Gov. Gwyn, Quijano hopes to undertake this cooperation in no time with the Capitol moving forward.
Chairman Quijano, accompanied by Comms. Ida Yap-Patron, Enriqueta Rodeles and Reymar Mansilungan paid a courtesy visit to Gov. Gewn Garcia at her aesthetic museum-like office at the Provincial Capitol in Cebu City.
The NCSC was in Mandaue City on July 19 for the 3-day World Health Organization (WHO) national validation workshop of the Philippine Plan of Action for Senior Citizens (PPASC) 2023–2028.
The two basic objectives of the NCSC and WHO is to present and validate with stakeholders the draft PPASC 2023-2028 and to develop guidelines for the Philippine Age Friendly Cities and Communities or PAFCC.
NCSC is the primary agency that promotes the advocacy of, and collaboration between different stakeholders and senior citizens to ensure the effective implementation of various programs and services, particularly on the development of 12.3 million senior citizens all over the country.
The newly-created national agency also works on advancing the elderly health, well-being, and ensuring a supportive and enabling environment for older persons.
